Solving One-Step Equations
Welcome to Solving Algebraic Expressions BOOTCAMP!
Hi there, and welcome to the Solving Algebra Equations Bootcamp!

I'm Mrs. Holman, and I'm so glad you're here.

Maybe you get anxious when you see equations, or maybe you've solved a few before and want to get better at it. Either way, you're in the right place! By the end of this course, you'll be able to look at a long, messy equation and know exactly where to start.

What You'll LearnWe're going to build your skills one step at a time:
  • Module 1: Solving one-step equations
  • Module 2: Multi-step equations and the distributive property
  • Module 3: Equations with fractions and decimals
  • Module 4: Equations with exponents
  • Module 5: Putting it all together with practice and challenge problems
Each module builds on the one before it, so work through the lessons in order.

What You Should Already KnowThis course is for students in about 7th grade and up. Before you start, you should feel comfortable with:
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
  • Fractions and decimals, including how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide them
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers (negatives)
We won't be re-teaching those skills here, so if you feel rusty, take a little time to review first.

What You'll Need
  • A pencil and a notebook or some paper
  • A printer for the practice pages (or you can copy the problems into your notebook or write them digitally)
  • A quiet spot where you can focus

How Each Lesson WorksEvery lesson follows the same pattern, so you'll always know what to expect:
  1. Read the lesson. I'll explain the idea and walk through examples step by step.
  2. Try it yourself. When you see a "You try it" problem, grab your pencil and solve it BEFORE you peek!
  3. Check your answer. Click đŸ” Click for Answer to see the steps and find out how you did.
  4. Practice. Most lessons end with a quiz or a practice page so you can make the skill stick.

Tips for Success
  • Write it down. Don't try to solve equations in your head. Writing out every step is how mathematicians catch their own mistakes.
  • Go at your own pace. This course is self-paced, so there's no rush. If a lesson doesn't make sense the first time, read it again!
  • Mistakes are okay. Seriously! Every mistake shows you something to watch for next time.
  • Always check your solution. You'll hear me say this a lot. 😉
